The Pacific Power Association (PPA) is an association of electricity utilities, organisations and individuals who have an interest in the operations and development of the power industry in the Pacific Island countries. It is an inter-governmental agency and member of the Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific (CROP) to promote the direct cooperation of the Pacific Island power utilities in technical training, exchange of information, sharing of senior management and engineering expertise and other activities of benefit to the members.
The PPA’s objectives is to improve the quality of power in the region through a cooperative effort among the utilities, private sector and regional aid donors.
The PPAs members pool their resources and expertise for their common benefit, gain international representation and improve access to international power sector assistance programmes.
The PPA provides direct link between the private sector and member utilities to improve private sector services and make their presence in the region more productive.
PRIF continues to foster close working relationships with the PPA Secretariat, a number of utility CEOs, and some of the Benchmarking Liaison Officers at the utilities. PPA has been supportive of PRIF’s Pacific Power benchmarking and PIPI exercises, Review of the Framework for Action on Energy Security in the Pacific, 2010-2020 and the development of the Pacific region energy framework 20202-2030, PRIF energy sector working group meetings, and a partner in the conduct of Pacific Energy Investor’s Fora.
