Nauru endorses the draft Nauru National Building Code 2023
The Pacific Region Infrastructure Facility provided support to the Republic of Nauru and the Nauru Department of Infrastructure and Development in crafting a specialized national building code (NBC) that aligns with Nauru's unique circumstances in the Pacific. The Nauru Building Codes Action Plan (April 2023) outlines core areas of focus, encompassing safety, health, energy efficiency, and sustainability concerns.

On August 17th, the Nauru Building Codes Technical Working Group, comprising representatives from the Government and private sector, convened to review and endorse the preliminary draft of the NBC 2023, a draft proposal for a Nauru Building Act, and associated regulations. Public consultations are scheduled to discuss the draft Code in the coming months.
The framework of the Nauru NBC was modeled on the updated Solomon Islands NBC and ongoing PRIF support in Kiribati, but its origins trace back to the Pacific Building Standards project of the 1990s and 2000s. PRIF extends gratitude to all contributors, including the Republic of Nauru and its departments, for their dedicated collaboration in this developmental process.
