The South Tarawa Water Supply Project funded by Asian Development Bank, Green Climate Fund, World Bank and the Government of Kiribati is a US$58 million project that aims to improve the water supply services by the construction of a desalination plant supported by solar photovoltaic cells connected to the grid that can generate the energy required for the operation of the plant. The project also includes awareness programs for the public an stakeholders in addition to technical and financial capacity building of Public Utilities Board and the relevant authorities of the Government of Kiribati, to ensure a sustainable system of high quality water supply to the entire population of South Tarawa at adequate amounts.
