The international development community recognise that the resurgence of the aviation industry is crucial to post COVID-19 economic recovery in the region and that any form of sustained recovery will require long-term cooperation between governments, international development partners, and regional organisations.

In response to this, the Pacific Regional Infrastructure Facility (PRIF) Transport Sector Working Group on July 2020,  commissioned an in-depth scoping study to examine the status of the aviation industry to guide PIC governments’ recovery plans and the need for donor support.

PRIF shared the findings of the study with Pacific island countries, aviation industry, regional organisations and donor partners via webinar on 16th October 2020. The study recommends short-term and immediate priority actions and indicative resources requirements to restart air services in the Pacific.
