The three-member SPC Team from Suva would like to thank the Government of Tuvalu for their support and assistance to assist them in carrying out this assessment.
In Funafuti Mr Pusineli Laafai the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Sumeo Silu the National Disaster Management Officer (NDMO), Dr Stephen Homasi the Director for Health, Government Statistician Mr Semu Malona from National Statistics Office of Tuvalu, Mr Pisi Selenganiu, Mr Charles Leepo from Public Works Department, Mr Tataua Pese of the Tuvalu Red Cross, and Ms Hilia Vavae from the Tuvalu Meteorological Service.
The Commander of the Police Patrol Boat Te Mataili Captain Seleganiu Fusi and his crew whose professionalism was outstanding and their support to make the trip as comfortable as it was. All the members of the assessment team from the government Departments including PWD, Environment and Agriculture, as well as the Tuvaluan Red Cross, all of whom came to together to become a team who supported each other and achieved a lot in good humour over a short period of time. In particular out Team Leader Mr Elekana Tofinga who did an excellent job of managing all the logistics of the trip including the meeting with all island kaupule and ensuring the team's accommodation, food and support from local labour was provided for.
Finally, we would also like to thank the various families on each of the six atolls who cared and catered for us with all their love and resources who were so generous.
This mission would not have been possible in the first place without the foresight and wisdom of SPC and we would like to sincerely thank and express our gratitude to the Director-General of SPC Dr Jimmy Rodgers, Director of SOPAC Dr Russell Howorth, Director of Public Health Division Mr Bill Parr and Mr Inoke Ratukalou the Director of LRD for their support and guidance in ensuring that the mission is successful.
