The National Building Code of the Republic of Marshall Islands (NBCRMI) establishes minimum requirements for building systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. It is founded on broad-based principles that make possible the use of new materials and new building designs. The NBCRMI 2021 edition is based on the 2018 International Building Code and excerpts from other ICC International Codes (I-Codes) with amendments specific to the RMI incorporated in them.
The public consultation of the draft NBCRMI 2021 edition is complete and ICC is processing the NBCRMI with their publication department. RMI are expecting to receive the final draft late 2022, after which it will go through cabinet and parliament to be enacted as a bill. Other activities will include revising the Planning and Zoning Act, developing a permit application system, and publishing an online version of the final NBCRMI.
Once the NBCRMI is finalised and approved by Cabinet a link to the NBCRMI will be provided
